If you are choosing a traditional Navy adult costume, remember to include colors of blue and gold. Did you know that the bell-bottom pants entered the sailors costume in 1817. The sailors were allowed to wear bell-bottoms so they could pull the pants up to their knees when washing down the deck. They were made in this form so that incase the sailor found himself in the sea he could use the pants as a life preserver.
Don’t forget the neckerchief or bandana for around the neck area. The neckerchief is traditionally black; it was added to the uniform so it could be used as a sweatband. It is black so that it would hide dirt and debris. Finally make sure you tie your neckerchief into a square knot, to be uniform with any other sailors you run into on Halloween.
For the women you only need a blue or white single-breasted coat, and a long skirt to match, black boots, and stockings. If you want to bump your adult sailor costume ideas up try a short skirt with thigh high stockings and blue heels. However, don’t forget women wore the sailor hat as well, so make sure to include in your sailor costume.
If you are looking for an alternative adult sailor costume idea look at some of the sailor costumes online and replicating them with items at home or form the thrift store. Check out some thrift stores where you can find white pants, and tops or skirts. Tie a black bandana around the neck and tie it in a square knot, add your sailors cap and you are all set with an adult sailor costume.
There are many adult sailor costume ideas, but you can also include your children in dressing up as sailors. Children will be dressed in more sweet costumes, but your young man may love be become a pirate for the occasion. Finally, don’t forget your best friend Fido there are costume ideas for him as well.

Personally, I think pirates are the coolest, especially pirates of the Caribbean. A great family look and you could even include your dog! Recruitment for the Navy would probably be a breeze if they allowed some of these sexy uniforms, I might even reenlist – hah!

Sailor costumes are a great choice for fancy dress. Everyone loves a uniform. It reminds me of the film An Officer and A Gentleman with Richard Gere. There were lots of ladies after the officers!

I searched through hundreds of online stores with her but a lot were either, in her words, “too babyish” or “too girly”. I started to wish she was still a three year old who wanted to be a princess. However soon we started seeing costumes that she liked and were affordable for me too. One of the biggest factors for me was delivery time and charge as I hate waiting weeks for an item to be delivered only to find out it’s the wrong size etc… and then you don’t have time to buy anything else. Sailor costumes are cool. Since I was from another country, I never knew Halloween could be so much fun until my son was old enough to join the Halloween Parade in our sub. He just turned 6 this year and I am going to find a Navy brad costume for him this year. Hopefully they are not too expensive!

I am a little overweight to get into the sailor costume thing. But a young guy and gal could pull it off nicely. I know we are looking for something fun, but it can also be patriotic to dress up this way and show support to our troops. Anyway the ladies suit is hot!!!

I don’t think I have ever actually seen a female sailor in my whole life, but they sure look good in these costumes. Maybe that adds to the mystery and excitement factor…Like the Loch Ness monster.

I’m not sure why, but I have always loved nautical themed costumes for Halloween: Navy costumes, sailor girl costumes, military costumes…I really love them all. Hard to choose one, especially with all the gorgeous one for women.
Sailor themes are one of the most popular for hen and stag parties. Most people go away to the coastal resorts so sailors seems to be the natural choice for dressing up.
